The GUILDHALL Programme: Sunday 12th August 2012
The
Guildhall concert programme features emerging jazz artists and local Welsh
based jazz talent.
3.0pm: The Joe Webb Trio
Fronted by Swansea jazz pianist, Joe Webb, the band was formed in 2009
when Joe met bassist Huw V Williams and drummer Lloyd Haines whilst studying
at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The band have played through
various different UK projects and earlier this year recorded for the first
time featuring all Joe's compositions on an album called ‘Night

5.30pm Brecon Jazz Club Presents: Cardiff
University Big Band
A great and highly talented group of young musicians led
by Jeremy Meddows-Taylor. The set will include features from Bobby Kaner's
Newblood and Giles Room Jazz. Lineup includes Georgina Hastings (Alto
Sax), Becky Gardner (Tenor Sax), Rachel Davis (Alto Sax) and vocalist
Luke Andrews.
Cardiff University Big Band (CUBB) comprises fine
new jazz talent from the university scene. An auditioned band, they perform
challenging, high quality jazz across South Wales and the UK. Led by Musical
Director, Jeremy Meddows-Taylor, recent gigs have included the BBC Hoddinott
Hall in the Wales Millennium Centre, the Lord Mayor's Charity Gala concert,
joint stage with the Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra.
The Band is also active on the competition and festival stages and won
a Gold Award at the South West Regional heat of the National Concert Band
Festival in Monmouth in 2010. This lead to an invitation to the National
Festival which took place in April 2011 at the Royal Scottish Academy
of Music and Drama in Glasgow. The band also took to the stage of the
Great North Big Band Jazz Festival at the University of Sunderland in
March 2012 to perform alongside many of the UK's best youth and university

Mountain Jazz, Abergavenny Presents:
The Sarah Gillespie Quartet, featuring Kit Downes (piano), eclectic Jazz sounds with lyrics influenced
by Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Bessie Smith. The quartet features pianist
Kit Downes, who appears elsewhere in the festival programme. The quartet
also has the versatile and creative Enzo Zirilli on drums and the great
rhythmic drive of Ben Bastin on double bass. Widely
acclaimed for her albums Stalking Juliet (2009) and In the Current Climate
(2011), Sarah Gillespie is a rising presence on the jazz scene, playing
gigs in the US, across the UK and in Europe. see

The quartet features former Empirical pianist Kit Downes, who now plays
regularly with his own Trio and Quintet. In 2010, Kit's debut album 'Golden'
